Description
Montelukast is an antagonist at cysteinyl leukotriene 1(CysLT1) receptors; it exhibits anti-allergic, anti-asthma, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-tussive, and bronchodilatory activities. Montelukast is clinically used to treat allergic rhinitis and asthma, although it also attenuates cough and decreases eosinophil infiltration. Montelukast decreases expression of p38 MAPK, NF-κB, IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α and inhibits activation of microglia, attenuating neuropathic pain in animal models of chronic constrictive injury (CCI).
