Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is an endogenous peptide hormone that binds GLP-1 receptors, increasing cAMP and insulin secretion. GLP-1 primarily exhibits anorexigenic, anti-diabetic, and gastrointestinal modulatory activities. GLP-1 decreases food intake and glucagon levels in animal models and also slows gastric emptying. In subjects with type 2 diabetes, the response of GLP-1 to glucose is impaired and subjects show abnormally low levels of GLPs. TEST!!!!!!
