Carbimazole is a methimazole prodrug that is clinically used to treat hyperthyroidism and Graves’ disease; it exhibits immunomodulatory and anti-thyroid activities. Carbimazole inhibits thyroid peroxidase, decreasing production of thyroid hormones T3 and T4. In clinical subjects with Graves’ disease, carbimazole increases levels of IL-2 and free radical scavengers and decreases levels of IL-2Rs. TEST!!!!!!
