Azelnidipine is a dihydropyridine L-type Ca2+ channel blocker that exhibits antihypertensive, anti-atherosclerotic, and anti-inflammatory activities. Clinically, azelnidipine decreases blood pressure; it also decreases inflammatory cytokine levels and carotid intima-media thickness.
