Description

Levocetirizine is the L-isomer of cetirizine, a second-generation histamine H1 receptor antagonist. Levocetirizine exhibits anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities. In animal models of allergic conjunctivitis, levocetirizine decreases levels of lipoxin A4, TNF-α, TGF-β, and antigen presenting cells (APCs) and increases levels of IL-10. Additionally, this compound increases levels of CD4+ CD25+ T cells and decreases levels of eosinophils, decreasing allergy symptoms in clinical settings.
